Igor Tudor has been confirmed as Tottenham's new head coach - but only until the end of the season.

The former Juventus boss arrives following the departure of Thomas Frank, who was relieved of his duties earlier this week. Tudor's first game in charge will be against Arsenal next weekend in the north London derby.

It had been speculated that Tottenham would seek an interim appointment before pursuing a permanent head coach in the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino the overwhelming favourite for the role.

The Argentine enjoyed tremendous success during his first stint with the club, however, he is currently unavailable as he is the head coach of the United States national team.

Spurs' sporting director, Johan Lange, said of Tudor's appointment: “Igor brings clarity, intensity and experience of stepping into challenging moments and producing impact.

“Our objective is straightforward – to stabilise performances, maximise the quality within the squad and compete strongly in the Premier League and Champions League.”

Tudor inherits a team who are languishing two places and five points above the relegation places after winning just seven games in the Premier League all season.

The 47-year-old acknowledged the severity of Tottenham's situation in his own statement, adding: “It is an honour to join this Club at an important moment.

“I understand the responsibility I have been handed and my focus is clear. To bring greater consistency to our performances and compete with conviction in every match.

“There is strong quality in this playing squad, and my job is to organise it, energise it and improve our results quickly.”
