Tottenham had a poor season last time out in the Premier League.
Indeed, Spurs finished 17th under Ange Postecoglou, and while a Europa League triumph did help soften that blow for the north London club, there are still some serious underlying issues at Spurs.
Tottenham weren’t good enough last season, and a number of their big-name players underperformed.
Heung-Min Son was criticised at points last season, while Dominic Solanke had an up-and-down season for Spurs after his club-record move from Bournemouth.
Expectations were high when Solanke arrived at Tottenham, but after just nine league goals in his debut season, it’s fair to say we haven’t seen the best of the England international at Tottenham just yet.
Luckily, there’s a new dawn on the horizon at Tottenham and Spurs may be about to make a signing that helps Solanke improve.
Antoine Semenyo could help Dominic Solanke improve
Tottenham are interested in signing another Bournemouth player this summer in the shape of Antoine Semenyo.
Daniel Levy has spoken to Semenyo’s agents in recent times, and the Bournemouth winger could be on his way to Spurs.
This will be music to the ears of Solanke as he worked with Semenyo at Bournemouth in a fluid attack when he was at the peak of his powers.
Indeed, Solanke’s stats alongside Semenyo tell the whole story here.
Solanke scores more goals when he’s playing with Semenyo, and that could be massive for Spurs next season if they do indeed do this deal.
Thomas Frank’s work with wingers
Semenyo to Tottenham is a move that makes a lot of sense. Not only would the attacker be reuniting with Dominic Solanke, he’d be joining a manager who knows exactly how to get the best out of this type of winger.
Indeed, Frank has worked wonders with a number of wide players over the years at Brentford, and Semenyo could be the next player to flourish under the Dane.
Solanke may seriously improve upon Semenyo’s arrival at Spurs, but Semenyo himself may also improve massively upon making this move to north London to work under Frank.
Of course, whether or not this deal gets done remains to be seen, but this is a move that makes a lot of sense for a number of parties as Spurs get stuck into the summer transfer window.
