Tottenham’s decision makers can not be taking any credit for the hire of Roberto De Zerbi after back-to-back Premier League wins.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who has called this season a “comedy” for Spurs.
De Zerbi’s Spurs are now unbeaten in three league matches, and a 2-1 win at Aston Villa last time out lifted them above the relegation zone.
With three league games remaining, Spurs hold a one-point advantage, and a superior goal difference, over 18th-placed West Ham.
Spurs hired De Zerbi at the end of March with the north London club in the relegation zone, following the disastrous reign of interim boss Igor Tudor.

Tottenham chiefs ‘breathing a sigh of relief’ at Roberto De Zerbi hire
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – reminds Spurs that they are not safe yet, and there is still work to do for De Zerbi.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness does praise De Zerbi for rallying the squad, which has been hit by numerous injuries this season.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Spurs are breathing a sigh of relief after every 10 minutes when they haven’t let goals in.
“The executives can’t take any great credit for the comedy that’s been this season at all and the way things have been handled. So I don’t think there’s any credit to be taken, and Spurs are nowhere near safe yet.
“As we know from last weekend, one swing of a win and a loss for West Ham and Spurs can put things in a completely different situation. So there’s no credit to be taken. But De Zerbi is acquitting himself with credit and that has been well received the way he’s got the players and I still maintain the injuries they’ve had to face have been absolutely incredible, and I feel very bad for them about that.
“But still, De Zerbi is getting credit, and he does deserve that credit for at least rallying the threadbare squad he’s got to make a fight of it.”
Tottenham’s owners must be prepared for cash injection
Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Spurs’ owners would have to inject £100million into the club if they are relegated to the Championship.
That is due to a predicted drop in revenue of around £200m in the Championship, with broadcast and commercial income set to decrease.
Borson would expect Spurs to win the Championship comfortably, even if multiple star players were to leave the club this summer.
