Earlier this week, we covered claims from Argentina that Racing Club de Avellaneda are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz to please their manager, Gustavo Costas.

It was initially reported the Argentine club plan to offer $5m [€4.3m] for 60% of Véliz’s rights.

On Friday, both Olé and Racing de Alma stated they have made a formal offer of $5m for 100% of his rights. They also reported Tottenham will receive a 30% sell-on clause.

Spurs weren’t thrilled with this offer and Racing have now made an improved bid. That’s according to journalist Germán García Grova, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the latest.

He claims the South American club have raised their offer to $7m [€5.97m] plus a 30% sell-on clause. The journalist adds the Europa League winners’ ‘OK is expected between now and Sunday’, meaning within 48 hours.

Germán García Grova’s claim is backed up by MDZ, who add Racing’s new offer is ‘close to being accepted’ by Tottenham.

MDZ say if this operation goes though, the Spurs man will be Racing’s new club-record signing.

Véliz left Rosario Central for Tottenham in 2023 and wasn’t able to enjoy regular minutes. The north London club sent him on loan to Sevilla and Espanyol for the last 18 months.
