Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans are starting to kick into gear with the North London club looking to sign a young player who Jose Mourinho once spoke very highly about.
The Lilywhites are looking to add to Thomas Frank’s squad ahead of their return to playing Champions League football next term.
One big issue which is facing Spurs is their lack of ‘club-trained’ players, therefore, they are eyeing deals for academy stars whom they have previously offloaded.
Tottenham keen to re-sign Dennis Cirkin from Sunderland
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Dennis Cirkin, however, Sunderland want him to sign a new contract, according to The Northern Echo.
TBR Football revealed that Tottenham were keen on re-signing Cirkin back in March and now the Lilywhites are stepping up their pursuit.
The North London club think that the 23-year-old would be great for their European squad as he would count as ‘club-trained’, meanwhile, they also think he has excellent ability to develop.
The Black Cats have just returned to the Premier League, and the youngster played a key role at left-back in helping them secure promotion back to the top-flight.
Cirkin is set to enter the final year of his contract, which leaves the Wearside club having to think about a potential sale this summer.
The young full-back will also have to consider whether to join a Champions League club where he isn’t guaranteed minutes or staying at the Stadium of Light where he is a regular.
TBR Football understands that at this stage, Cirkin is considering his options as he is on England’s radar as an upcoming prospect.
What Jose Mourinho once said about former Tottenham player Dennis Cirkin
Mourinho has previously spoken very highly of the former Tottenham academy star, having said he is a young player with a ‘lot of quality’.
The Portuguese manager was sacked just months before the defender was sold to Sunderland and he never got the chance to play the then-teenager.
Speaking back in 2019, Mourinho told Football.London: “I couldn’t be at the game but I watched on video our youth team playing in the [UEFA Youth League], and we also have [Dennis Cirkin].
“OK, he’s 17, but he’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him to train with us, and to help his development.”
