Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a summer transfer raid for Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs, according to reports.
The Dutchman has impressed immensely since arriving on Wearside from Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen last year, and has garnered plenty of plaudits from far and wide for his assured performances during his debut campaign in the Premier League.
At the time of writing, Roefs has kept seven clean sheets in the top flight, and only Burnley’s Martin Dubravka has recorded more saves so far this season. The Sunderland stopper also made headlines earlier this month when he saved all three of Everton’s penalties in an FA Cup third round shootout, ushering his side into the draw for the next stage of the competition in the process.
What has been said about Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs?
According to talkSPORT, Roefs’ displays have done enough to earn him the admiration of Tottenham, who could be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. It is understood that Thomas Frank’s men could face a battle to keep hold of current number one Guglielmo Vicario at the end of the season, with the 29-year-old attracting interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
As such, Spurs could look to lure Roefs away from the Stadium of Light having been convinced of his suitability as an immediate replacement for the Italian. For his part, the 23-year-old is under contract with Sunderland until 2030.

What has Robin Roefs said about Sunderland’s ambitions this season?
Speaking after a recent 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, Roefs admitted that Sunderland have no intention of slowing down this season, even after seemingly playing their way clear of a prospective relegation battle.
He said: “Before the game, I said I wanted a clean sheet and a win. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the clean sheet, but I guess the win is more important. I’m just so happy with the guys, the way they responded to Palace scoring the first goal. By the end of the game, we were the better team and deserved all three points.
“There was never any chance of us taking the foot off the gas despite our position. In the dressing room, the message is we just keep on going. Especially at home, we know how good we are, and it is up to us to keep pushing.”
With Sunderland edging closer to the 40-point mark, Roefs insisted the ambition inside the dressing room has always extended beyond mere survival. He continued: “Yes, we feel we can do something really special, but even at the start of the season, everyone was really positive. No one was talking about just doing enough to stay up. Our ambition was not just to survive. All of us wanted more, so every game we play, we aim to win.
“We show every game, we can make it difficult for every opponent. We went behind today, but still showed that belief we could hit back and win. It is not just at home, we have done that in away games too. We know the qualities in this team. Maybe the first ten or 15 minutes weren’t so great for us, and they had a few chances, but by the end we created a lot and could have won by more.”
