Tottenham Hotspur look to be in line for a major financial windfall ahead of the end of the transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of a major financial windfall - as a result of a sell-on clause as part of Troy Parrott's move to AZ Alkmaar in 2024. Spurs agreed a reported sell-on of 20 per cent as part of that £6.7m move to the Eredivisie.
The Republic of Ireland international has shone since that move to the Netherlands, scoring 10 goals in his first seven appearances before a knee ligament injury in August kept him out of action until October.
Parrott bounced back with 16 goals in 28 games and helped his nation reach the World Cup play-offs, attracting plenty of suitors ahead of this summer's transfer window.
Real Betis are in advanced talks with Alkmaar over a £17.1m move for the former Spurs academy prospect, having also caught the eye of West Ham United. But a move to the Hammers broke down after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.
West Ham had a £15m bid rejected for Parrott earlier this summer, falling short of Alkmaar's £25m asking price, which if paid in full, would have banked Spurs £5.1m.

Spurs are still in line to bank the sell-on clause, though, with Betis now the front runners to sign Parrott and on the verge of beating FC Porto and RB Leipzig to the forward's signature.
BBC Sport reports that a deal between Betis and Alkmaar is now close to completion, with Spurs in line for a cash boost of around £3.4m. The news of a deal being close to an agreement comes just a few days after Parrott's AZ teammate, Mexx Meerdink, expressed his sadness at his strike partner leaving the club following the 4-1 win over FC Utrecht.
Parrott missed the emphatic win with a suspected minor injury, but Meerdink's slip of the tongue hinted at an imminent departure.
Meerdink said: “It is a shame that he is leaving us, but for me it is a great opportunity to prove myself. He deserves a good move.
"Hopefully he can make a good move. And then it will be my time. Am I getting a big head? No way, I’ll just stay true to myself."
A windfall would be a major boost for Roberto De Zerbi's side in the final few weeks of the transfer window.
Spurs have been one of the most proactive Premier League sides following back-to-back disappointing campaigns.
Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka have all joined this summer as they look to revitalise their squad.
They've managed to recoup their fair share in transfer fees too, with Djed Spence, Cristian Romero, Will Lankshear, Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz and Manor Solomon all leaving on permanent deals.
