Tottenham Hotspur have River Plate youngster Ian Subiabre on their transfer agenda for this summer, according to River Noticias.

The 18-year-old initially joined River Plate’s youth system in 2022 and made his way into their first team in 2024. He was part of Argentina’s squad at the U20 South American Championship earlier this year.

After impressing in this tournament, the winger has mainly been used as a substitute at the club, but that hasn’t stopped Tottenham.

The report states Spurs have made formal enquiries about the young attacker’s contract situation in the ‘last few hours’.

Chelsea were the first English club to show interest in him and held a meeting with his agent, former player Claudio Caniggia.

Subiabre has a $30m [€26.1m] release clause in a contract that expires in December 2026. This saw the Blues cool their interest.

The report states the Europa League winners could present a ‘different offer, perhaps with different payment terms’. They could also propose a percentage of a future sale to River Plate, indicating Tottenham’s plan isn’t to activate Subiabre’s clause.

River Plate aren’t ruling out a potential move in the short-term, likely after the Club World Cup. They haven’t received any formal offer so far and their desire is to retain him, unless there’s an offer of $30m.
