Tottenham Hotspur are said to be in advanced talks to sign St Patrick’s athletic striker Mason Melia, who has already been training with the team.
He was a matchday guest for Spurs’ 4-3 defeat to Chelsea last weekend and has impressed in the Irish Premier Division, helping St Patrick’s to third place in the league.
The 17-year-old was in demand with several Premier League teams interested in Melia, according to Football Insider. Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton were all keen on the attacker.
He’s scored six goals in 31 games this season for St Patrick’s and has been capped by Ireland’s U19s, making three appearances and scoring one goal so far.
He won’t be able to join Spurs until he turns 18 in September, and could likely see a loan move away from the north London club in order to develop before attempting to break into the first team.
Melia has already featured in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, but Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir knocked his side out.
Tottenham still linked with striker transfer move
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that he wants to add more attacking players over the next few transfer windows.
Spurs have been linked to Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney who made the move to Saudi Arabia last summer from Brentford. He was linked with moves to Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, but as no deal was done, Toney moved to Al-Ahli.
The former Brentford man is reportedly open to a move back to the Premier League, despite scoring three goals and providing three assists in 10 games for Al-Ahli.
Tottenham have also been linked with Wolves striker Mattheus Cunha, who has impressed despite his side’s poor form so far this season.
Cunha has scored seven goals and contributed three assists in 15 matches in the Premier League and has become one of the more in-demand attackers in the league this season. However, reports suggest that north London rivals Arsenal as well as Manchester United are keen to sign Cunha, which could jeopardise Spurs’ pursuit of the 25-year-old.
