Home All Sports Tottenham Hotspur Are In Talks To Land This West Ham United Talent:...
In a recent segment on Youtube, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to land West Ham United talent Mateus Fernandes this summer. Romano said,
“According to my information, Tottenham are talking to the agent of the player, Jorge Mendes, and they are pushing in order to reach an agreement with the player.
“But still nothing is guaranteed, still nothing closed. So, what’s going to happen is that there will be more conversations with Tottenham, more conversations with Manchester United, because don’t forget that Manchester United are working very, very hard on this deal.”
Fernandes’ Impressive Season In English Football
Fernandes had a solid campaign at the London club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. However, he failed to help the Hammers avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The 21-year-old scored five times and earned five assists in 42 matches for West Ham last season on all fronts. Fernandes is currently among the best young midfielders in his homeland. Thus, it is no surprise that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting him this summer.
His current deal at the London Stadium will run out in 2030, which could make it difficult for Tottenham to land him on a cut-price deal this off-season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Roberto De Zerbi Snap Fernandes Up This Summer?
Fernandes doesn’t mind working hard for his team defensively when needed. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third.
The Portuguese talent is full of energy and running at the centre of the park and did well to add a handful of goals and assists to his game last season. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the North London club.
We can expect Fernandes to bring more quality and depth to Tottenham boss Robert De Zerbi’s midfield. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Fernandes as long as he continues to improve with each year. Hence, De Zerbi would be wise to go all out to snap him up later this year.
