It is no secret that Liverpool are searching for a winger with the new season just over a week away. The Reds lost club legend Mohamed Salah at the end of last season and are yet to replace the Egyptian with a marquee signing.
Links to Paris Saint-Germain stars Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye have grown stronger as the new campaign approaches, suggesting Liverpool could soon bring in at least one new attacker.
Barcola has reportedly given his agreement in principle to join Liverpool after speaking with Andoni Iraola and club officials, while Mbaye is also said to be keen on a move from the European champions.
Liverpool supporters are crying out for attacking reinforcements, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided a positive update, revealing that the Reds could sign not one but two new wingers.
Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi is also looking to add a wide attacker and has been linked with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
Tottenham have formally expressed their interest in signing Gakpo, according to Voetbal International’s Joost Blaauwhof. Spurs are also interested in Manchester City winger Savinho, but any potential move for the Brazilian is separate from their interest in Gakpo.
De Zerbi has different roles in mind for the two attackers. A deal for Gakpo could prove difficult, but the Netherlands international remains a key target for Spurs.
Gakpo scored just nine goals and provided six assists in 52 appearances last season. The Dutchman had registered 16 goals and six assists in 2023-24, followed by 18 goals and six assists in 2024-25, highlighting his reduced impact last season.
He is under contract at Anfield until 2030. A move to Tottenham could offer the 27-year-old a fresh start while potentially opening the door for Liverpool to pursue both Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
Barcola could take Gakpo’s role as the first-choice left winger, while Mbaye could operate on the right and help fill the void left by Mohamed Salah.
Reinvesting Gakpo’s potential transfer fee into the French duo could prove an ideal solution for Andoni Iraola, particularly with Hugo Ekitike expected to remain sidelined until around Christmas.
Further developments are expected ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United on August 23.
