When it comes to the transfer market, it is important to get things done as early as possible. Otherwise, there is always the risk of someone swooping in and signing your targets. Tottenham Hotspur learnt that recently. For weeks, they were in the driving seat in a deal for Eberechi Eze. But Arsenal made a last-minute attempt and were successful in signing him. Could Spurs try to do the same with Chelsea?

Earlier, we had talked about Tottenham Hotspur's reported interest in Christopher Nkunku. But he is not the only player that they are believed to be having a look at, after missing out on signing Eze.

Incidentally, another one is a player the Blues want to bring in to replace Nkunku. As reported by Mail on Sunday (via Sky Sports), Chelsea are expected to hold further talks with RB Leipzig over a deal for Xavi Simons despite late interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea have been trying to sign Simons for several weeks and for a while, it has been believed that a move is close to completion. Personal terms are not a problem and an agreement can be found with RB Leipzig as well. But first, the Blues will need to clear up space and raise funds by parting with players. The likes of Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are prime candidates to help facilitate it by completing exits.

Generally. Chelsea have been very swift when it comes to engineering exits for their players. But they have struggled to find new homes for the likes of Nkunku and Jackson.

It has not been for a lack of suitors. All summer, they have been linked with a long list of clubs. But it appears that there is a gap between what Chelsea want and what clubs are willing to pay to sign them.

As we get closer towards the end of the transfer window, interested parties will be hoping that Chelsea reduce their transfer expectations. Let's see if the Blues are ready to budge.
