Tottenham Hotspur might have finished the Premier League season in 17th, managing to pick up only 38 points. Yet, this has been one of their most successful campaigns ever, as Ange Postecoglou was able to guide Spurs to silverware after 17 years, winning the UEFA Europa League. The Australian has already declared that his Season 3 as their manager is going to be even better. And with that aim, it looks like the club have an eye on one of Chelsea's players, who could be headed for an exit.
Chelsea fans want experience and proven quality to be brought in this summer. They did exactly that when they signed Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig a couple of years back for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of â¬60 million.
Nkunku was expected to be the talisman of this team but it simply has not worked out. He has spent most of his time at Chelsea playing the role of an impact substitute and a cup starter.
Thus, Nkunku is believed to be eyeing the Stamford Bridge exit door. If speculation is accurate, then Tottenham Hotspur might be prepared to make an offer to sign him from London rivals Chelsea.
Tottenham Hotspur ready to make offer for â¬60m Chelsea player
As reported by Fichajes, Nkunku's departure from Chelsea is virtually assured in the summer transfer window. Among the teams that have shown the greatest interest in signing the Frenchman is Tottenham Hotspur, who are willing to negotiate an initial loan, with a â¬45 million option to buy.
Considering the time that Nkunku has had since joining Chelsea, the Blues cannot expect a much bigger transfer fee. Of course, one would think that they would try to negotiate an obligation rather than an option.
Let's see how things play out. There are plenty of other teams rumoured to hold an interest in signing Nkunku as well. In the Premier League, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are viewed as potential candidates. Outside of England, PSG and Bayern Munich have been linked with the Frenchman and might be a better option for the Blues as they would not be strengthening a direct title rival.
