The Europa League win has done wonders for Tottenham as transfer window approaches

Tottenham Hotspur managed to do the unthinkable and ended the long-standing trophy drought in the most unexpected way possible. The Lilywhites beat Manchester United in the Europa League final to bring silverware back to N17 after 17 long years. It was a historic occasion for everyone involved with the club as they ensured Champions League qualification for next season as well.

The Europa League triumph eclipsed all the pain and sufferings that Spurs endured in the Premier League this season. Ange Postecoglou’s men put all their eggs in one basket once they reached the latter stages of the competition. Whilst they struggled to get results in the Premier League week in week out, the Lilywhites ensured that they went through to the next round of the Europa League to keep their season alive.

Well, it is fair to say that the gamble worked in spectacular fashion. Not only did the North London club end their long-standing trophy drought this season, but they also ensured the all-important Champions League qualification for next year. The financial implications for next season will be clear to see now after Ange’s men managed to beat Manchester United in the final.

Stefan Borson confirms Tottenham ‘have the cash’ to spend big in the summer

Tottenham have already incurred financial losses this season after enduring a tough Premier League campaign. The Lilywhites must adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer if they want to bring in new players for next season. That means Daniel Levy will need to be quick to cash in on underperforming players so that the North London club can kickstart a new era at N17.

However, Spurs have received a major financial boost after winning the Europa League. Speaking to Football Insider, football finance expert Stefan Borson said,

“From an actual cash perspective, actually having the money to go and do the things that you need to do to pay for players and for transfers, Tottenham seem to have an issue with cash at the moment and find it quite difficult to raise money from third-party sources. They have got issues in respect to that, but they don’t seem to be able to raise any more debt.”

The finance expert added,

“This will be good for Tottenham Hotspur because this will mean that they’ve got the cash. By cash I mean money coming through from prize money and also people literally paying through the gate for those games through direct debits, credit cards etc. That is cash that comes into the club that you can then spend and that you don’t need to wait for down the line.”

Stefan Borson suggests that Tottenham are struggling to generate cash from third-party sources to pay for transfer and player salaries. However, the finance expert also adds that the Lilywhites are not adding any more debt, which is a good thing for the club. Borson then points out that the money through the cash prize (Europa League win) and ticket sales will help Spurs to bring in reinforcements without worrying so much about the finances as such.
