Tottenham Hotspur have made their first official offer for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window closes.
The north London club have been linked with Gakpo for some time, and Dutch outlet SoccerNews reports that Spurs have now followed up their interest with an opening bid.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that Tottenham had formally expressed their interest in signing the Netherlands international from Liverpool.
According to the latest report from Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof, confidence is growing among the parties involved that a move to Spurs could happen, with the chances of a successful deal now considered high.
Liverpool, however, still have to approve the transfer, while Gakpo remains a priority target for De Zerbi.
SoccerNews have now reported that Tottenham’s opening offer is worth just over £60 million.
Liverpool are considering the proposal, although it is expected to be rejected as the Reds are holding out for a higher fee for the Eindhoven-born forward.
Tottenham have been linked with several attacking options this summer, with Manchester City’s Savinho expected to join this summer, with Gakpo earmarked for a starting role at the left side of Spurs attack.
Gakpo is reportedly open to leaving Liverpool this summer, with both English sources and people close to Tottenham said to have confirmed his stance.
The 27-year-old scored seven goals and provided five assists in 36 Premier League appearances last season.
Since joining Liverpool, he has established himself as a regular member of the squad and has made more than 130 official appearances for the club.
Liverpool on their part are looking to bring in attacking reinforcement, with Bradley Barcola at the front of their transfer shortlist.
