The Carabao Cup third-round draw has set up a huge all-Premier League clash, with Liverpool hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tueday, September 15. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm BST.
Ahead of the game, Spurs have suffered an injury blow, with summer signing Mykhailo Mudryk set to miss six to eight weeks after injuring his ankle in training, according to BBC Sport.
Mudryk is understood to have sustained the injury on Monday and is currently wearing a protective boot. The 25-year-old joined Spurs from Chelsea on a season-long loan on deadline day.
He made his first senior appearance since November 2024 in Saturday’s goalless draw at Nottingham Forest. The injury comes prior to a three-week international break, with a return in October considered realistic.
The Ukraine international had been expected to receive a national team call-up. He was handed a four-year ban in December 2024 after testing positive for meldonium but was cleared to return to professional football in July after resolving his doping case with the Football Association.
This latest setback means Mudryk is expected to miss several Tottenham fixtures, including upcoming Premier League games and potentially the Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool.
Tottenham already have several attacking injury concerns, making Mudryk’s absence another setback for Roberto De Zerbi as he looks for his side’s first Premier League goal of the season.
For Mudryk, the injury is a major blow after returning to competitive action. The forward will now begin another rehabilitation process before looking to regain his fitness and place in the squad.
Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi previously worked with Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk and is hopeful of reviving the winger’s career after his difficult spell at Stamford Bridge.
Mudryk’s loan move to Tottenham includes an option to make the transfer permanent for £75million. He joined Chelsea from Shakhtar in January 2023 for a fee that could rise to £88.5m.
