It was against Everton on the final day of last season that Spurs secured their Premier League survival with a 1-0 win, and circumstances are again pretty bleak for them ahead of the meeting between the sides at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight (kick-off, 5.30pm).
Still targeting a first win and first goal of the 2026-27 Premier League season, Tottenham are rated even-money to beat Everton, who are 13/5 outsiders for a win, while the draw is 13/5.
I’ve assessed the betting markets for today’s contest and have looked beyond the result when picking out tips at odds of 11/10 and 13/5, along with a bet builder that has total combined odds of 7.58/1.

Key stats
Spurs picked up more yellow cards (99) than any other Premier League team last season.

High card count the way to go
When trying to pick out the value in a Premier League fixture, the first port of call is often the result betting followed by a look at goals angles.
But in the case of Tottenham against Everton this evening, nothing jumped out at me.
Spurs picked up their first point of the season away to Nottingham Forest last time out but it was not a particularly inspiring performance as they failed to register a shot on target at the City Ground, and their wait for a first league goal of the season goes on.
Everton have started their campaign more positively and a sensational late strike from Ainsley Maitland-Niles ensured they took a point off Manchester United in a 2-2 home draw last time out, preserving their unbeaten start to the season.
But the Toffees are winless in their last six away games in the top flight and have lost three of their last four meetings with Tottenham, so I am in no rush to back them at 13/5.
Roberto De Zerbi has spent the opening weeks of the season tinkering with a new-look Tottenham team and they will surely click soon enough with Omar Marmoush and Savinho reinforcing their attack, while their recent record against Everton should inspire some confidence.
But I am not going near an unpredictable side such as Tottenham at odds of evens to win, so I have delved a bit deeper into the markets.
Both teams to score also looked on the skinny side at 8/11, given Tottenham have yet to score and David Moyes is likely to set up his team to play cautiously in north London, so the bet I like instead is for there to be five or more cards in the match at 11/10.
That would have been a winning wager when the sides met on the final day of last season as Spurs picked up three cautions and Everton received two. The appointment of referee Darren England for this game is another deciding factor in this bet.
England has dished out seven yellow cards in two Premier League fixtures this season but last term he was averaging 4.3 cautions per game, with just three officials handing out more yellow cards in the 2025-26 season.
Neither of these teams have particularly eye-catching disciplinary records this season but no team received more yellow cards than Tottenham (99) in the Premier League last term, while Everton were not a million miles behind them on 72.
Tottenham have averaged 14.3 fouls per Premier League game under De Zerbi this season – the fourth-most in the division – and it may evolve into a fiery game if the home crowd grows impatient.
Everton’s draw with United on Sunday featured six cards, while their only away fixture of the season at Bournemouth produced five bookings, so I am happy to take this wager at a shade of odds-against.

Porro a prime pick for a yellow
If cards are expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it makes sense to take a look through the player card markets and Pedro Porro is the value pick to be booked at odds of 13/5.
Porro was a standout player for Spain at this summer’s World Cup, impressing with his attacking output on the right side of defence, but he also never shies away from a challenge and picked up 10 yellow cards in last season’s Premier League.
He was one of only 13 players to hit double figures for bookings and he averaged just under one foul (0.9) per game.
In this contest he could be particularly busy from a defensive point of view given that Everton have directed 45 per cent of their attacks down the left in the Premier League this term – the highest proportion of attacks on that side in the division at time of writing.
They have also had 34 per cent of their shots from the left and winger Tyrique George has been lively on the ball, averaging 2.7 shots, two key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game down that flank.
Porro could therefore be drawn into the odd cynical challenge and with England in charge, he may be worth a punt to go into the book.

Consider Spurs corners in match multiple
To avoid putting all our eggs into one basket, I have moved away from cards in my match bet builder, which has total combined odds of 7.58/1 with Betfred if all the legs win.
The first part of the multiple is for Tottenham to take seven or more corners. Spurs have just one more league game after this one before the international break and De Zerbi will be desperate for his team to get a win under their belt, so I expect them to play on the front foot from the start.
Even though they have yet to score in the league this season, Tottenham’s tally of 22 corners is the highest in the league after three matches, averaging 7.3 per game.
They often look to get the ball forward in wide areas, averaging 21 crosses per game in the league, and they hit the mark of seven corners when they hosted Everton in their final game of last season.
I have already touched on the influence of George on the left wing for Everton and the next leg is for the former Chelsea forward to have a shot on target.
Only four clubs have conceded more shots per game in the league than Tottenham (16.3) this season and George scored against United last time out.
To complete the bet builder, I’ve gone for Everton’s lone striker Thierno Barry to win two or more fouls.
Barry has not been the most prolific of strikers since his move to Merseyside but he is a key physical presence up top and he has been fouled four times in 239 minutes of league football this season.
In this match he is likely to be up against Jan Paul van Hecke, who is averaging 1.3 fouls per game this term and received nine yellow cards at Brighton last season, as well as Micky van de Ven, who is averaging one foul per game in the Premier League this season.
