Tottenham are said to have identified a possible Vicario replacement as they face the possibility of losing the Italian this summer. It’s going to be a big summer for Spurs who, providing they stay up, must do sufficient business to ensure they do not finish in the bottom half for the third straight season.

This summer’s managerial appointment is going to be key, and Spurs cannot afford to get it wrong again, but recruitment is going to be equally important, with the recruitment having been poor over the last couple of years.

What makes this summer’s recruitment even more important is the fact that Tottenham are likely to lose at least a couple of their best players. Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Vicario all face uncertain futures for different reasons.

And replacing any of those players is going to be a task. In Vicario’s case, it seems the Italian will get an opportunity to join a top-level club that is ready to compete for trophies, and Inter Milan look strong contenders, while Juventus have also been floated as an option.

A return to Italy certainly looks to be on the cards, though Spurs will be loathed to lose the stopper. Should Tottenham need to find a replacement though, it seems Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu is of interest.

According to Fussball Europa, Spurs are well aware of the possibility of losing Vicario and are shopping around for a replacement. Atubolu is viewed as one of the options having impressed in Bundesliga. In fact, Atubolu has impressed so much for European hopefuls Freiburg that he has recently earned a Germany call-up.

Atubolu is out of contract in the summer of 2027, and Freiburg are very likely to lose him if they can’t tie him down to a new deal. The 23-year-old has a reported asking price of £26.1million, and interestingly, Inter Milan have also been linked with a move for him.
