Tottenham return to action on Saturday when they take on London rivals West Ham in the Premier League. It has been a difficult week for Spurs on the back of their FA Cup exit, with pressure ramping up on Thomas Frank, and there has been a fresh injury blow for Rodrigo Bentancur.
Spurs are expected to add to their squad over the coming weeks, and it seems Conor Gallagher will be first in. As Frank prepares his men to face West Ham, we have rounded up the latest Tottenham injury news and possible return dates.
Rodrigo Bentancur
Bentancur has now undergone surgery on his right hamstring. It is not likely he will return before the March international break, at a minimum, with a later return possible.
Possible return date - April
Mohammed Kudus
Kudus has now been ruled out for months with a hamstring issue. Frank has confirmed: “Mohammed, unfortunately, is a bigger one to the tendon in the quad. That is one where we expect him back after the March international break.”
Possible return date - April
Dejan Kulusevski
Frank has said: “We know it is a complicated injury. If there is one person who can accelerate that [recovery], it is Dejan. The most important thing is to remove the pain in the knee. He had an injection to help that ten days ago. We will know in 3-4 weeks if that has settled. And when it has settled, hopefully, he will be on the grass and from there, we will see what is happening.”
It doesn’t look likely Kulusevski will return this month, especially given he will need time to build his fitness up to match level. A return some time next month is more likely.
Possible return date - Mid-February
Lucas Bergvall
Bergvall missed the Villa game but he is not believed to have a serious issue.
Possible return date - January 17 (West Ham)
James Maddison - Out
Maddison is out for much - if not all - of the season with a knee injury. Frank said in December: “It's very early stages. It's still a long-term injury, so it's good to see him out there, but very early stages. There's no specific time frame. It will be a long time, unfortunately, before he's available.”
It does not look likely Maddison will return this season.
Possible return date - Pre-season
Richarlison
A fresh concern with a hamstring injury, we don’t yet know the extent of the Brazilian’s setback. If it’s a strain, it could be 3-4 weeks, a little tightness could be less, but a more significant tear could be a case of months. We won’t speculate on the date until we know more with this one.
Possible return date - TBC
