Tottenham injury latest for Europa League final as Man United wait on Son Heung-min update
The latest Manchester United news heading towards the Europa League final vs Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United are in their third final of a major competition in three years after thrashing Athletic Bilbao 7-1 across two legs in the Europa League semi-final.
After putting one foot in the Bilbao showpiece in the first leg last week, United cruised to victory at Old Trafford last night. Despite falling 1-0 down, Ruben Amorim's men scored four goals in 19 second-half minutes.
Mason Mount made it two goals in two games with a fine finish, before Casemiro put United ahead on the night. Rasmus Hojlund then scored his first Europa League goal since December prior to the superb Mount's spectacular near half-way line goal.
United will play Premier League rivals Tottenham in the final on May 21. Before that, Amorim's men must manage two league games against West Ham and Chelsea.
However, Spurs, currently 16th in the Premier League, also have nothing to play for in the league meaning that all their eggs are placed in the Europa League final. Just like United, Ange Postecoglou faces injury concerns heading into the final.
James Maddison, who would be likely to start in Bilbao, will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury. His fellow midfielder, Lucas Bergvall, is out for the remainder of the campaign after sustaining a ligament problem in his ankle.
Son Heung-min has missed the last seven games, but there's optimism that Tottenham's captain could return for the final. "Disappointing for Sonny," Postecoglou said. "He was pushing hard.
"He has progressed; there's the possibility of him getting some game-time at the weekend [against Crystal Palace] for us, but he hasn't trained with the team yet. So we'll just wait and see how he goes."
Radu Dragusin is out with an ACL injury picked up at the start of the year meaning Spurs face being without four first-team players.
