Ligue 1 defender emerges as a target for Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur have strengthened their defensive ranks further by announcing the arrival of Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth. The six-cap Argentina international marks the second deal that Spurs have confirmed already this summer, after landing Andy Robertson from Liverpool.

Senesi spent four seasons with Bournemouth, which culminated in him helping the club into the Europa League under Andoni Iraola. The 29-year-old’s announcement came hours after Spurs also revealed that Ben Davies had extended his stay for a further year.

Elsewhere, work is underway to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. Roberto De Zerbi clearly is keen to work with Van Hecke again, having managed him at his previous club, Brighton. The Italian tactician is clearly looking to bring in players that he knows he can trust as he aims to guide the Lilywhites into European contention next season.

Despite that, surprisingly, another central defender has been linked with a move to Spurs.

RC Lens defender on the radar of Tottenham

According to a report from Flashscore, Tottenham are interested in signing RC Lens Ismaelo Ganiou, but face competition from Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund.

Having only moved to RC Lens from Padova last summer, Ismaelo Ganiou enjoyed his breakout season in Ligue 1. Having been a substitute for Lens until November, he then earned his starting position and never looked back. The youngster bagged three goals in 23 league appearances, whilst displaying a measure of calmness, maturity and reading of the game.

This has unsurprisingly led to some clubs across Europe now wanting his signature. The report adds that Lens are ready to sell Ganiou for €35m after just one season.

Tottenham must avoid signing Ismaelo Ganiou

Tottenham might end the summer being the busiest Premier League club in the market if their early moves are anything to go by, and the way they have been adding defenders to their squad, it feels like our fans could witness a high-profile departure from the backline.

Cristian Romero looks the most likely candidate, having lately emerged as a target for Manchester United. Radu Dragusin, too, is expected to depart, with the Romanian’s agent already talking to several clubs. Even if Romero and Dragusin end up leaving N17, Spurs signing Van Hecke from Brighton would just be enough.

With Van de Ven and Danso set to stay, and Senesi added to the roster, Van Hecke could come into Tottenham as a potential replacement for Romero. Moreover, the Hotspur Way chiefs have a big decision to make on the highly-rated Luka Vuskovic’s future.

As Spurs are way too stacked with options in central defence, it makes little sense to spend €35m on an inexperienced commodity from Ligue 1 football. That said, the North Londoners must avoid pursuing Ganiou and allow Palace and Dortmund to battle amongst themselves for his signature.
