Thomas Frank is close to becoming the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur and one of his former Brentford assistants has been discussing the move.

Frank has spoken to Tottenham about replacing Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked despite helping guide the North London club to their first major trophy in 17 years.

The Brentford coach could now be tasked with helping Spurs climb the Premier League table next season following their disastrous campaign in which they ended up in 17th.

Ahead of the potential move to the Lilywhites, one of his former assistant coaches has revealed the Tottenham joke they used to make at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brian Riemer says Thomas Frank ‘deserves’ Tottenham move

Thomas Frank’s former assistant coach at Brentford, Riemer, claims that the 51-year-old deserves to join Tottenham Hotspur.

The current Denmark national team coach also believes that what he has done in coaching is unlike anything Danish football has seen before.

When asked about Frank making the move to a bigger club, Riemer told Tipsbladet: “There’s probably not much you can compare in Danish football history where someone has done as well. So I hope for him that he gets that move (to a bigger club) one day.

“Whether it’s to Tottenham or somewhere else, we’ll have to see. But he deserves it. I don’t know where it stands, but I hope so for him.”

Riemer worked as an assistant coach to Frank from 2018 to 2022, in which the pair helped Brentford to secure promotion to the Premier League and then keep them there.

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham joke at Brentford

Riemer has also revealed how the pair used to joke at Brentford about them moving to Tottenham, given the fact that his favourite football team was the North London giants.

The 46-year-old left Brentford after being offered the head coach role at Belgian club, Anderlecht, before making the switch to the Danish national team.

He added: “I will say that Tottenham has always been my favourite club, and at Brentford, we always joked that if we were to move on from Brentford, we would go to Tottenham.

“So now we have to see if he calls, but no. I am in a good place here, and I am staying here.”
