Tottenham planning to propose another loan deal for Mathys Tel with high loan fee and buy obligation

Tottenham Hotspur have a decision to make on Ange Postecoglou and several players of their squad, which is now uncertain.

The Lilywhites did the unthinkable under Ange Postecoglou and won the Europa League trophy in Bilbao in May. Despite becoming the first manager to lead the club to silverware after 17 years, Postecoglou is unlikely to continue the project at N17.

Now, with Spurs looking ahead to a summer of change, a decision needs to be made on Mathys Tel as well.

The North Londoners signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window deadline day, with a €60m buy option included in the transfer agreement. The forward struggled for game time in the first half of the season at Bayern Munich, making only a handful of appearances in the Bundesliga.

However, since his move to White Hart Lane, the youngster enjoyed more game time and became a Europa League winner. The forward played 20 times for Tottenham, netting three goals and an assist in the process.

Now, the Frenchman could make his stay with Tottenham permanent, as Daniel Levy looks to strengthen the squad for the 2025/26 season. However, the chief decision-makers at N17 are not ready to pay €60m to sign Tel on a permanent deal from Bayern. They are looking to renegotiate terms with the German champions as Spurs feel they can get his signature at a lower fee.

Tel is not expected to be a part of Vincent Kompany’s Bayern squad for the Club World Cup and instead will be part of the France U21 squad for the upcoming games. Now, a new update on his future and Spurs’ efforts to sign him has been delivered.

According to a report from Sky Deutschland, Tottenham are considering extending the French forward’s loan for one more season with a high loan fee and an obligation to buy. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl continues to hold ‘intensive talks’ with the Premier League side for Tel. There is no mention of any figures yet.

Tel doesn’t appear to feature in Vincent Kompany’s plans at the Allianz Arena, so the Bundesliga giants have to make a prominent decision on the youngster’s future quickly. While the Sarcelles-born talent struggled to post consistent numbers during the past few months in a Spurs shirt, he showed great promise for the future. This has also led to Ange Postecoglou advising the club to retain the pacey winger’s services.

Our club bosses’ plans to propose an extension of Tel’s loan for another season with a sizeable loan fee and buy obligation would make sense. If they put forward that offer, it will be interesting to see whether Bayern agree to it or not.
