Tottenham are plotting a raid on Portuguese giants for their star marksman.

Reinforcements will be necessary in the upcoming window if Tottenham Hotspur wants to head back in the right direction, and there’s no doubt they’ll be looking to back Roberto De Zerbi in the transfer market.

Spurs have kicked off a potentially busy summer by agreeing deals to sign Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively. They also want to bring in Savinho from Manchester City to boost their wide department. It’s been widely known by now that the Lilywhites remain keen on adding a new striker to De Zerbi’s attacking ranks.

Tottenham’s own attacking record this past season was one of the most damning aspects of their near-relegation campaign. Apart from Richarlison’s 12 goals in all competitions, none of his fellow forwards managed goals in double digits. This demonstrates how the likes of Mathys Tel, Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani royally underperformed throughout the campaign, and this is why Spurs must invest in a new striker.

Tottenham learn asking price of Benfica star Vangelis Pavlidis

Spurs reportedly hold an interest in Vangelis Pavlidis after his excellent season with Benfica. The Greek marksman plundered 30 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions, which is why he is such a coveted commodity heading into the summer transfer window.

Spurs face competition from a host of European clubs for the signature of the 27-year-old, who has an £87m release clause. Benfica are open to allowing Vangelis Pavlidis to leave the club this summer, but they won’t let him go on the cheap. A new update has now shed light on what the Portuguese giants’ financial demands are to sanction the sale of one of their valuable assets.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Benfica would want at least €40m before considering a sale of Pavlidis. It is way less than the centre-forward’s release clause, but at least would represent a sizeable profit on the €18m they paid to sign him from AZ Alkmaar in 2024.

Instant Richarlison upgrade

The €40m valuation should be reasonable for Tottenham planning major changes in the squad. Pavlidis has proven himself in the Portuguese top-flight, and in his prime at 27, he is due a big move to the Premier League.

Tottenham, in that regard, would be an ideal destination for the Greek star. He would enhance the Lilywhites’ attack, bringing a consistent source of goals to the side. Welcoming the Benfica sharp-shooter, who can score all kinds of goals, would hand De Zerbi an instant, more robust upgrade on Richarlison this summer- both in terms of goalscoring and injury record.
