Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is likely to be without two key defenders for Wednesday's Champions League league-phase showdown with Monaco at the Stade Louis II.

The Lilywhites suffered a pair of fresh blows ahead of their 2-1 Premier League loss to Aston Villa on Sunday, as Cristian Romero hurt his groin in the warm-up, while Destiny Udogie missed out with a minor knee problem.

Frank could not say for certain whether both men would be absent or available for the midweek fixture, but given the tight turnaround, it would be a surprise to see either player risked for the European contest.

Romero's problem should therefore lead to another start for Kevin Danso alongside Micky van de Ven, who is already treading a suspension tightrope and will incur a Champions League ban if he is booked on Wednesday.

With Udogie likely to miss out, Djed Spence's spot at left-back should be safe too, while Pedro Porro ought to be retained at right-back over the youthful Archie Gray.

However, Frank should not shy away from alterations further up the field, where Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall could add more dynamism to the midfield alongside Rodrigo Bentancur.

Mathys Tel's ineligibility will likely see Richarlison return to the tip of the attack, flanked by Brennan Johnson and Xavi Simons as Randal Kolo Muani builds up his fitness as a substitute.

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Sarr, Bentancur, Bergvall; Johnson, Richarlison, Simons
