Tottenham are set to dip into the goalkeeping market amid Guglielmo Vicario’s uncertain future.

Guglielmo Vicario’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has shifted considerably in recent months.

Spurs’ undisputed No.1 since 2023, Vicario did not play a single minute under Roberto De Zerbi. This is because he underwent groin surgery at the start of the March international break, which ruled him out for five games. Antonin Kinsky deputised well in his absence, and while the Italian became fit again last week, De Zerbi decided to stick with Kinsky in goal.

Vicario has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan for the past three months. An agreement on personal terms between the player and Inter Milan have already been reached; however, there has been a twist lately. Latest reports suggest the Nerazzurri have pulled out of the deal to sign the Tottenham goalkeeper. Instead, they will trust Josep Martinez as their first-choice goalkeeper when the next season comes around.

This leaves Vicario’s future in N17 up in the air, and while De Zerbi stated he remains his first-choice goalkeeper, the Italian international knows his time at Spurs is probably coming to an end. And it looks like the Lilywhites have already lined up a replacement in case he departs.

Tottenham line up move for Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Tottenham are interested in signing Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. They have identified the Ukrainian international as one of the options to strengthen their goalkeeping department due to his youth and potential for growth.

Anatoliy Trubin has performed very well at Benfica since joining from Shakhtar Donetsk for €10 million in 2023. The 24-year-old finished the 2025/26 league season with 13 clean sheets, conceding just 24 goals in 32 games. He has a contract at the Stadium of Light until 2028 and is protected by a €100 million release clause.

Trubin recently admitted his desire to work with De Zerbi again, having learnt a lot from the Italian tactician during their time together at Shakhtar Donetsk. This would give Tottenham a slight edge when it comes to negotiations with Benfica, although it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese club would want their No.1’s release clause to be paid in full.

If that happens, then Spurs would be wise to shift their focus to other alternatives. Otherwise, they could have a talented goalkeeper with high potential in their ranks. A strong distributor of the ball with both hands and feet, Trubin would be an upgrade on Vicario. Having worked with the shot-stopper before, De Zerbi will be able to trust him completely to start attacks from the back.
