Tottenham loanee Pape Matar Sarr played a key role in Juventus’ 2-1 win over Celta Vigo on Thursday, prompting Gazzetta dello Sport to claim the Senegalese international could become a ‘crucial player’ in the Bianconeri’s midfield.

Juventus secured a 2-1 comeback win over Celta Vigo on Thursday in the second match of the league phase of the Europa League.

Gazzetta highlights that the 24-year-old made 88 touches in his latest outing, plus 65 successful passes, and three interceptions, more than any other player on the team.

Furthermore, he won six duels and had three total shots: one blocked, one on target and one off target.

‘Sarr has shown that he can become a crucial figure in the Bianconeri’s midfield,’ wrote Gazzetta.

‘He’s highly effective at breaking up play and in transition, although he still needs to improve in the final third.’

Sarr has made five appearances for Juventus in all competitions this season, starting three times. He played for 90 minutes in both Juventus’ Europa League matches against NEC and Celta Vigo, making the most of Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli’s lengthy injuries.

Sarr is on loan from Tottenham, and Juventus hold an option to buy. The Bianconeri paid €2.5m for a one-season loan and can make his move permanent for a further €27.5m.
