EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham midfielder undergoing medical ahead of transfer out of the club
EXCLUSIVE: The talented young Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is set to join the Championship club where he enjoyed a big season on loan
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine is undergoing a medical today with Preston North End ahead of a permanent move to the Championship club, football.london understands.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a memorable season out on loan with North End with eight goals and eight assists in the centre of the park from 48 appearances. He earned plaudits aplenty for his performances and Devine at one point had eight clubs interested in taking him permanently from Spurs, including Scottish champions Celtic as well as some promotion-chasing Championship sides.
However, Preston were always strongly in the race thanks to their relationship with the midfielder, who they made a concerted push to ensure he felt wanted from the first moments at the club.
Before taking Devine on loan last summer, Preston agreed an option with Tottenham to buy the England U20 midfielder in a deal worth around £6million. That figure is more than twice their transfer record but the youngster impressed so much that the Lancashire club, who finished 14th in the Championship last season, were said to have triggered the option with payments in instalments.
Now football.london understands Devine, who has 12 months left on his contract at Spurs, is undergoing his medical after giving the green light to Preston.

He is the north London club's youngest ever goalscorer after his FA Cup strike in 2021 as a 16-year-old against Marine, but two appearances in that competition are the only occasions in which he has pulled on a Spurs shirt in senior competitive matches. Instead the midfielder has been sent out on multiple loans over the years to Port Vale, Plymouth, Belgian side Westerlo and then Preston last season.
