Tottenham offer expedites clause negotiations

Como are likely to demand a top price for Nico Paz, as they need to buy a clause they agreed when signing him from Real Madrid.

That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who explain the situation today after Tottenham saw a €40m bid for the Argentine rejected.

Tottenham have moved for Paz today, seeing an initial €40m proposal rejected as they seek a replacement for the injured James Maddison. A report earlier today stated Como have put a €70m asking price on the midfielder, with €60m needed just to start talks.

That high price could be because of a clause that Real Madrid, who sold Paz to Como last year, still hold on the player.

CM explain that Como have been working to remove a repurchase clause that Madrid negotiated last year for the player.

The clause runs until 2027 and was initially set at €9m. That expired in June 30th. The price will rise over the next two years, to €11m in total.

Como want to get rid of it entirely, particularly as it includes an option for Madrid to match any offer that is accepted for Paz and take him back that way instead.

That means if Tottenham agreed a deal, Madrid could move as well. The danger, of course, is that they use the cheaper clause and then look to sell the player for a huge profit instead.

It seems they’re working to get rid of that and have been for some time, particularly now with Tottenham offering big money.
