Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has reflected on a difficult third season in north London with a lengthy social media post, dropping a huge hint as to his future at the end of the message.

The 28-year-old has struggled to make a role in the starting XI his own under Ange Postecoglou with just 15 Premier League appearances this term. A series of injury problems have not helped his cause but the player finished the season strongly, starting the Europa League final against Manchester United.

The Brazil international, who has previously been candid when sharing stories of his mental health struggles, unveiled the impact that spending so long in the treatment room has had on him this term. Richarlison made the move to Spurs from Everton for £60 million in 2022 and has scored 20 goals in 90 appearances for the club since then.

Richarlison reflects on difficult Spurs season

Taking to Instagram after the 4-1 defeat to Brighton, in which Richarlison played 24 minutes, he wrote: “When this season started, all I wanted was to be healthy to help my team have a better year. I knew it would be important for me mentally and also to finally give back in some way the affection I have received over the last few years from Spurs fans and everyone who supports me.

“No one said it would be easy, but I also never imagined it would be so difficult. There were days and nights of great anxiety, treatments, pain and a torture that seemed to have no end. But it did! And it was when I returned to Brazil for a week in February, after yet another injury, that things started to change. Being close to my family during those days changed a lot for me. It made me feel like the old Charlin, the boy who just wanted to play soccer. Being on the field has always been therapeutic for me, even before I discovered the power of therapy. It is my best medicine and the thing that cures almost all of my problems.

“And that's how I left the field on Wednesday, playing football without fear, without trepidation, until my legs couldn't take it anymore from fatigue and cramps. With a trophy in my hands, my heart full of joy and with my team, which had been so discredited during the season, now champions!

“Thank you to everyone who was by my side and was part of this special moment, always believing in me and encouraging me even in the most difficult moments. Thank you to Tottenham - the board, players, coaching staff, employees - and to my entire staff - for having achieved this together!”

Tottenham striker drops transfer hint amid Everton interest

The post finished with the promise, “and let’s go for more”. Those are significant words given the transfer rumours currently surrounding the striker.

Richarlison has been linked with a summer move back to former club Everton but appears keen to continue his time at Spurs and look for more trophies. Transfer specialist Graeme Bailey claimed over the weekend that the Toffees have already ‘promised’ the player a ‘leading role’ under David Moyes and a guarantee of minutes that may not be possible under Postecoglou.

Everton are set to lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a free agent this summer and loanee Armando Broja is to return to Chelsea at the end of his deal. The Merseyside club have made the acquisition of a talisman a priority ahead of the summer window with Ben Jacobs claiming that Spurs could sell for £45 million.

The report adds that Richarlison is ‘not convinced’ that his future remains at Tottenham Hotspur but the striker appears to have quashed that idea with his carefully worded social media post.
