Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has spoken to the Portuguese media about his time at Sporting CP and the huge impact the club had on his career.

Porro signed for Spurs after impressing during his three seasons with the Lions.

Speaking to O Jogo, the Tottenham player was asked about his time at Sporting, where he arrived in 2020 as a youngster who hadn’t managed to breakthrough at Manchester City.

The full back said even though he was playing for Spain U21’s, he still arrived at Sporting as an unknown. Porro believes the Portuguese club shaped his future in the game and to thank for his successful career.

“I remember perfectly that when I arrived at Sporting I was nobody. I had played in the Spanish under-21 team, but I was nobody, and Sporting gave me everything,” said the Spurs player.

He then went on to speak about his time in Portugal and the things he misses since moving to England.

“I already knew Portugal; I lived near the border. I knew Lisbon, Porto not so much. What surprised me the most was the food. I miss it a lot. The food is very good, what I miss the most is the pastel de nata. I still try to buy here in London. I really like cod with cream. I like all the food,” said the Spaniard.

Porro signed for Tottenham initially on loan in 2023 after making nearly 100 appearances for Sporting.

The 25-year-old has gone on to play 107 games since arriving in London, scoring 11 goals. Porro started Thomas Frank’s first Premier League game with Spurs in last weekend’s victory over Burnley and looks to be in the Dane’s long-term plans.
