Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro has talked about his obsession for football in a detailed interview with Thursday’s edition of ABC.

The right-back is currently preparing for Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Turkey.

ABC had a detailed chat with the Tottenham star to discuss several topics including the Premier League club’s business this summer and image of Spanish football in the UK.

Tottenham Hotspur have contributed to the Premier League record investment of over €3bn in the summer window.

When asked about PL spending power, the 25-year-old said he didn’t focus on the transfer market due to “family issues”. He’s referring to his wife giving birth to the couple’s first child on Monday.

The newspaper then asked him how Spanish football is seen in England. Responding to that, he said: “I haven’t spoken to anyone about the Spanish league, I won’t lie. But I’m a fan of football; I follow the Spanish League. I’m a player who likes to watch all kinds of games.”

ABC immediately asked the Spurs defender whether or not it’s common among professional players to watch football.

“I think it’s the other way around. There are people who play but don’t really like watching football,” Porro explained.

“I love it. If I can have it 24 hours a day… I’m a football fanatic. There are players who do like watching football and others who say, ‘I’ve got enough with what I have.’ In my case, it’s true that I’m a big football fan.”

The former Sporting man explained this can help him improve his own game.

“I always watch it, not just the matches I play in,” he added.

“I like to take things away from it, concepts, because they can often be useful when you’re in difficult situations. Like what happened to me with Spain. I reviewed it, not the match itself, but the concept that I could improve on from there.

“That’s why I like to review all kinds of football, because at the end of the day, it can help you later on.”
