Dejan Kulusevski hasn’t played for Sweden since November 2024. Initially the problem was a foot injury and then he suffered the knee issue which still keeps him out.
Despite that, the Tottenham player has been joining up with Sweden’s squad during international breaks. Soaking up the atmosphere and trying to be a positive influence around the place.
In the bunch of games before he was injured, the Spurs player had been used as captain and it was expected he could take that over from Victor Lindelof full time. However, the pair seem to be in some kind of injury competition, taking it in turns to be out.
This time Kulusevski won’t be joining up with Sweden, instead the Tottenham player will stay where he is as he works to return.
Fotbollskanalen quote Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson as saying: “Kulu will not be with us this time. We all know what a heart he has for the national team. But he is in a different phase of his rehabilitation now.”
Maybe that’s a hint that things are speeding up with his return from injury. Thomas Frank said recently he didn’t want to commit to a month for the comeback.
The Swedish comments, though, may provide some hope.
