Claims regarding Atletico Madrid and Cristian Romero have calmed a little in recent days. That was after Spanish newspaper AS had got all cocky and pretty much said Atletico would buy the defender this summer for the fee they wanted, with Tottenham having to put up with it due to the player’s desire.
Marca then walked that back, taking everyone back to the general stance of Atletico Madrid wanting to sign Romero, but there being a knowledge it’s not so easy to negotiate with Tottenham.
Over in Argentina, Cuti’s father is getting himself involved in club drama.
Sunday’s edition of Perfil Cordoba reports Víctor “Quito” Romero could be set to get into club politics at Atlético Belgrano. That was Cristian Romero’s youth club and who he made his professional debut for.
According to the claims there’s a social gathering every Thursday of people concerned about the future of the club, and the newspaper states: ‘There, amid the variety of grilled meats, wines, and anecdotes, “Quito” reportedly spoke out about some issues he didn’t like about the current Celeste board of directors, and even suggested the possibility of running for the presidency of the Alberdi neighbourhood club, when the time is right.’
Naturally, the slant has now turned into a hope that Romero Sr takes over the club presidency and his son eventually returns to play out his final matches there.
