Here is the Tottenham Hotspur team we reckon Roberto De Zerbi could name to face Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup second round

Tottenham want to get their season up and running on Wednesday night as they welcome Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

The second round clash offers a chance for Roberto De Zerbi and his players to get over Saturday's woeful 3-0 defeat at Brentford to open their Premier League campaign. Championship side Charlton will be a tough test though after starting their campaign with two wins, including one at West Ham.

New £85million signing Savio has had his registration with the Premier League and FA confirmed and that means the 22-year-old Brazilian is eligible to make his Spurs debut. De Zerbi said Dominic Solanke is fit to start in the cup match and confirmed that captain Micky van de Ven will be back on the bench alongside World Cup-winning right-back Pedro Porro.

Mohammed Kudus is not ready yet to return and James Maddison will be out for a couple of weeks after suffering a shoulder injury against Brentford at the weekend.

Summer arrival Martin Dubravka could make his Tottenham debut to keep him ticking over in case he's needed in the Premier League to deputise for Antonin Kinsky.

De Zerbi will have to decide whether to give minutes to those players not involved at Brentford, as fixtures are at a premium this season, or ensure his new signings can continue to build their partnerships.

There's a case for bringing in both Kevin Danso and Ben Davies as centre-backs, but the Spurs boss may want to hand Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke another run-out together, while Destiny Udogie or Davies could start at left-back if the former is fit enough to do so as well as Brazilian youngster Souza.

In midfield, Mateus Fernandes and Rodrigo Bentancur are a strong pairing that need sharpness. Mathys Tel and Mikey Moore will want to continue to get minutes and if Solanke starts then a decision lies between Conor Gallagher and Lucas Bergvall over who plays behind him in the number 10 role.

Both came off at half-time on Saturday. There is also Jamie Donley, who could get some minutes before the academy product departs the club on loan this summer.

There is also 17-year-old academy talent Luca Williams-Barnett, who De Zerbi told football.london would be on the bench and could be in line for minutes.

Here's the Tottenham team we reckon De Zerbi could select:
