Tottenham are set to soon make a formal approach for Liverpool star.
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi is set to take a new route in the coming weeks.
With De Zerbi looking to reshape parts of the squad, the club are exploring different ways to strengthen without simply spending huge fees across every position. This has been well documented by Spurs snapping up free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively.
Tottenham also require firepower up front, especially after the past season’s struggles to create chances and score goals. The absence of a prolific winger capable of influencing the game in the final third has to be targeted, and recent reports suggest Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has emerged on the North London club’s radar.
Cody Gakpo has become unsettled at Liverpool following the sack of head coach Arne Slot. The 27-year-old was a favourite of Slot, and despite his underwhelming displays, continued to stick with him in the XI. This led to the Dutchman starting 32 of 36 Premier League games, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists. Yet, that hasn’t stopped him from being short of suitors.
Tottenham formulating a big transfer offer for Cody Gakpo
According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are leading the race to sign Gakpo and are planning to soon make a formal approach to Liverpool. They have internally decided to offer a package worth around €70m for the Netherlands international. No offer has been made as of now, with Newcastle United and Bayern Munich monitoring the forward’s situation at Anfield.
Gakpo scored just once in the final 10 games of the 2025/26 Premier League season, as the Reds slumped to a fifth-placed finish under Slot, so new boss Andoni Iraola will be assessing the forward’s future. Spurs are looking to offer him an escape route, with De Zerbi eyeing Premier League-proven and seasoned campaigners to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Liverpool man has attracted attention because of his pace, directness, movement and ability to play across the front line. He is capable of changing games with individual moments of quality, although the forward can be viewed as a one-trick pony due to his keenness to cut inside off the left wing and either shoot or cross in the box. Due to him being an established Premier League player, Gakpo has the potential to walk straight into De Zerbi’s XI in N17.
Spending around €70m for the Liverpool star would be a statement of intent from the Tottenham hierarchy. It demonstrates how much Gakpo is rated internally at White Hart Lane, and with his qualities on and off the ball, the Dutch star could turn out to be a transformative attacking acquisition for De Zerbi’s Spurs.
