Alejo Véliz has struggled since leaving Rosario Central for Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023. He hardly got minutes at Spurs and has spent the last 18 months on loan at Sevilla and Espanyol.
The striker’s situation encouraged Racing Club de Avellaneda to make an approach this summer. They offered $7m to buy him, but it was turned down by Tottenham.
His desire is to return to Rosario Central. Their president, Gonzalo Belloso, and Carolina Cristinziano, his wife and vice president, travelled to England to hold talks with Tottenham to sign the 21-year-old on loan.
Journalist César Luis Merlo reports the Argentine is ‘very close’ to returning to his former club this summer. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that negotiations are ongoing with Tottenham to sign Véliz on loan without an option to buy.
TyC Sports state Tottenham have ‘reached an agreement in principle’ with Rosario Central. The frontman will return on loan and the latter won’t have an option or obligation to make his stay permanent.
Véliz was clear that his desire is to return to Rosario Central despite Racing’s offer and a Boca Juniors approach.
Tottenham, whose initial plan was to sell, have now reportedly accepted his wish and agreed to send him on loan.
