Tottenham picked up a crucial win to remain in the hunt for survival, but still lag behind West Ham after they secured a late victory over Everton

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a crucial win in their bid to avoid relegation after Joao Palhinha's winner against already-relegated Wolves. The triumph at Molineux ended Spurs' turgid run of form as they picked up their first win under Roberto De Zerbi and the opening victory of 2026, four months into the calendar year.

The importance of the Portuguese midfielder's effort eight minutes from time only increased after West Ham United netted late on to beat Everton, which keeps them two points clear of the bottom three. The north London club face a gruelling battle to survive the drop as they face three of the top 11, as well as Leeds United.

However, both West Ham and Nottingham Forest have a difficult run. With their respective wins, Forest's coming in an emphatic 5-0 away win at Sunderland, Spurs' rivals will be buoyant. Speaking after the game, the Italian said: "We played 30-35 mins very well in the first half. We didn't create many chances but we had control.

"[In the second half] maybe the pressure to win this game, we didn't play well, but today the three points was very important. We can prepare for the next four games.

"We have to play, we can't lose our style or lose the order on the pitch - we can't show the quality of the players if we play like we did in the second half, but in terms of attitude and spirit - great 90 minutes.

"Without the ball we can't win the game. These players are good enough to win with the ball. We can play much better than the second half."
