Tottenham Hotspur are busy preparing for the start of the Premier League campaign but first have the UEFA Super Cup with Paris Saint-Germain to contend with on Wednesday night.
Spurs set up the clash with the French champions after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final while PSG hammered Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final.
Thomas Frank then takes charge of his Premier League game as Tottenham boss on Saturday afternoon at home to newly-promoted Burnley.
However, while the competitive on-pitch action gets underway this weekend there is still time to get more transfer business done with the window open until 7pm on September 1. Spurs have reportedly opened talks with Man City for forward Savinho as Thomas Frank looks to add more threat to his attacking ranks in North London.
Tottenham improved offer expected after Man City reject £43m bid
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are ‘expected to return with an improved offer’ for Savinho after City rejected an opening bid of £43m. The 21-year-old signed for Pep Guardiola’s side for around £31m 12 months ago and was given plenty of minutes last term but now appears eligible for an exit.
He made 48 appearances scoring three goals and providing 13 assists. He appeared to be part of Guardiola’s plans for next campaign after playing a key role at the Club World Cup. He started three of the four games.
The winger was rested for the 6-0 Group G win over Al-Ain but started against Juventus and in the round of 16, as City were knocked out of the tournament by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Spurs have completed a permanent deal for Mathys Tel this summer and signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham in a £55m deal. However, their other signings have focused on the defensive side with Frank keen to add another attacker.
Savinho has ‘something special’ - Pep Guardiola player verdict
After being involved in three goals in a 4-1 win over West Ham back in January, City boss Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Savinho. The winger forced an own goal from Vladimir Coufal and then provided two assists for Erling Haaland.
“I think he’s clean in his mind,” said Guardiola.
“He doesn’t think too much in his head. When you are many years here, players think they deserve something special for what they have done.
“That is a big mistake. You have to prove it again and again. Savinho has everything to win and prove.
“Having old fashioned football with left foot on the left and right on the right, these kinds of crosses help the kind of striker we have.
“The second goal at Leicester and the second goal today. He has a lot to improve, he is not aggressive enough without the ball, but right now he has something special to help the team.
“His goal was lucky, but the two assists were brilliant. I am so happy for him, and he deserves to play.”
