Tottenham could boost their chances of keeping Cristian Romero at the club by raiding Manchester United this summer. The Argentine has been linked with a move away from north London in the wake of Ange Postecoglou losing his job. After the news was confirmed, the defender posted an emotional statement on social media in which he appeared to aim a thinly-veiled dig at Tottenham's hierarchy.
Romero wrote: "You’re a fantastic coach, but above all, a great person who deserves the best. From day one you paved the way despite the many obstacles that always existed and always will exist. Beyond everything, we won a trophy and went down in the history of this beautiful club, which is the only thing that matters. I wish you the best because you deserve the best."

Atletico Madrid had already been linked with a move for Romero before Postecoglou was relieved of his duties. It remains to be seen if Tottenham's managerial change will exacerbate the situation, with the 27-year-old's future still very much undecided.
Romero is keen on the idea of moving to Spain but Tottenham are still hoping to negotiate a contract extension, according to TBR Football. However, the report adds that convincing him to sign will be 'tricky' because he has his 'heart set' on leaving the club.
There is still time for Tottenham to appease Romero by securing a move for one of his international team-mates. They have been credited with an interest in Alejandro Garnacho, who is expected to leave Old Trafford before the start of next season.
The pair are known to be close, with Garnacho paying Romero the ultimate compliment after United were beaten by Tottenham in last month's Europa League final.

Speaking afterwards, the Red Devils winger said: "We know Cuti [Romero]. He’s the best centre-back in the world. He deserves it, so congratulations to him."
Tottenham moving for Garnacho would provide Romero with a familiar face, which could tempt him into staying at the club. Garnacho, meanwhile, is reportedly keen on staying in the Premier League which suggests it could be a real possibility.
For now, though, the north Londoners will continue to sweat over Romero with Atletico Madrid still believed to be circling.
When quizzed on his future after the Europa League final, he said: "I can’t stop what is said outside about what will become of my future. I always give everything for this club, and I give my all to this shirt.
"I came with the mentality of winning, of making history. I wanted to leave my name engraved in Tottenham."
