Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has hinted at a secret conversation had with Ange Postecoglou before the manager was sacked by the North London club last week.

The Aussie helped Spurs to a historic Europa League triumph last month and, despite speculation over his future, had outlined his desire to remain in the position. However, lifting that trophy was not enough to keep the club’s board pleased following a slump to 17th in the Premier League.

The Telegraph has reported that Tottenham Hotspur now face the threat of a ‘player revolt’ having sacked Postecoglou, who was well loved in the dressing room. The outlet added that chief football officer Scott Munn, who has also been sacked, was one of the manager’s biggest supporters.

The report claims that the incoming manager at Spurs will face a ‘huge task’ in repairing the bond with players who are disappointed to see Postecoglou leave. Several first team players have shared sad messages following the sacking, including club captain Son Heung-min.

The South Korea international wrote: “He [Postecoglou] won the trophy. Nobody did it, so …. look, it is not up to me or the players, but we just have to look at the facts, at the fact that we have not won in 17 years, today is the day we finally won it. It is the manager who wins the trophy. So we see what is going to happen.”

That has poured fuel onto the fire of a potential exit for Son amid interest from Saudi Arabia and now midfielder Bissouma has also written a message of his own. Shared on Sunday, the 28-year-old hinted at a secret conversation with Postecoglou, the nature of which could cast doubt over his future at the club.

Bissouma, who signed for Spurs for £30 million in 2022, made 44 appearances across all competitions last term. He wrote on Instagram: “Gaffer, I even don’t know where and how to start. I got a lot to say about how good you are as a human but I just wanna say thank you for everything from day one to the last one you did a lot in my life on and off the pitch I’ll never forget the energy you shared with us.

“Your mindset made us European champions and legends of this wonderful club. Today you leave like a great and it will remain forever engraved in the history of the club thank you for everything boss. and thank you to all the staff for everything you’ve done for me — on and off the pitch. You believed in me, pushed me, and helped me become better every day. I’ll always be grateful. Wishing you nothing but success in your next chapter. I’ll always remember the last conversation we had that’s changed a lot things [winking face] thanks.”

Bissouma, who played the full 90 minutes against Manchester United in the Europa League final, has another two years left on the four-year deal signed in 2022 when moving from Brighton. The Boy Hotspur last week claimed that the player’s agent Michael N’Cho had attracted ‘serious’ interest in the player from Wolves, Leeds United and Everton ahead of the summer with a £35 million fee touted.
