Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is getting his feet under the table in north London having made the move from Brentford with first team players returning to training earlier this month.

The Spurs squad were back at it 45 days after lifting the Europa League trophy at Bilbao ahead of the return of the Premier League. Frank has taken over from Ange Postecoglou and faces a vital pre-season period to get the team playing in his style.

Tottenham Hotspur begin their campaign on August 16 against Burnley but are, of course, in UEFA Super Cup action against Paris Saint-Germain before that. Spurs will also head to Asia later this month for pre-season matches against Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Destiny Udogie ‘leaks’ new Spurs tactic

Over the course of those matches, it will become clear how Frank wants Spurs to play. However, there has been some indication of a key tactic spotted by fans in the back of a social media post made by Destiny Udogie.

The defender, who has been linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid supposed interest from Manchester City, shared a light-hearted video of teammates dancing in the changing room. In the background, a screen showing the team’s training schedule could be seen.

It’s hard to make out all of the content, but one part that is clear to read is the ‘long throw audition’. That’s a tactic loved by Frank that he is clearly desperate to use at Tottenham Hotspur.

Thomas Frank proud of long throw tactic

In March, Brentford beat AFC Bournemouth 2-1 to pick up a fifth away league game win in succession with Christian Norgaard scoring the winner after a long throw. Speaking after the game, Frank said: “I thought it was a very good game, especially in the first half. Second half I thought Bournemouth started better. We scored a great, ugly goal from a long throw that won us the game. It’s a fantastic record, unbelievable. Now we just need to keep the away record and hopefully add five home wins.”

That’s something that former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby, who knows Frank well thanks to his role as main Premier League football analyst in Denmark, also picked up on. When breaking down the manager’s tactics for the BBC, he said: "I see a squad ready to play Thomas Frank football. It is about putting the opposition under pressure at every given opportunity. The one thing you don't want to do as a team is defend. He likes to put the opposition under pressure.

"That is in open play, set-pieces. He makes no bones about his use of long throw-ins. Put teams under pressure. Play long. Play quick. He is adaptable tactically as well."
