One Tottenham star drew praise for a performance he put in during a national team win on Friday. It has been a torrid season for Spurs, and after the international break, the North London club will be in a fight for their lives.
Just one point above the relegation zone, and with West Ham facing bottom club Wolves next time out, Spurs will be feeling nervous about the current situation.
Interim boss Igor Tudor has shown no real ability to rally the troops, and at this stage, it looks against the odds that he will make it until the end of the season.
For all of those reasons, many Spurs players will be enjoying what may be perceived as a refreshing break the the stress and the trials of the relegation battle.
One of those players is Micky van de Ven, who is away with the Netherlands. On Friday, the Netherlands beat Norway 2-1 in an international friendly, and van de Ven was praised for his impact by Football Oranje, earning a solid 6/10 rating.
The report read: “Norway looked dangerous at times down his side but he grew into the game and showed his power going forward.”
Elsewhere, Xavi Simons made it off the bench, but the Spurs star didn’t play enough to get a rating or a written review.
Netherlands next face Ecuador in a friendly on Tuesday as they continue preparations for the World Cup. They have Japan, Tunisia and a team that is yet to be decided in the World Cup group stage.
Van de Ven and Simons are both likely to be a big part of the World Cup plans, as long as they stay fit through the rest of the club season.
