Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be plotting a late summer move for experienced Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The north London side have made an excellent start to the league season under Thomas Frank with back-to-back clean sheets and victories over Burnley and Manchester City respectively. They also impressed in the Uefa Super Cup final against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and were only beaten narrowly on penalties after a pulsating 2-2 draw against the French side at Udinense’s Bluenergy Stadium.
However, Frank still has work to do if he is to assemble a team capable of competing in the upper echelons of the Premier League while also going into the latter stages of Europe’s elite competition. Tottenham have so far added Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha, Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai to the group while also securing permanent deals for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel after initial loan moves at the end of last season.
Tottenham plot move for Adrien Rabiot
According to French outlet RMC Sport, Tottenham are in talks to sign Adrien Rabiot this summer. Thomas Frank is believed to be an admirer of the 53-time international due to his immense experience at orchestrating the midfield at the highest level. Rabiot started out at Paris Saint-Germain where he made 227 appearances, scoring 24 times and contributing 14 assists while also winning five league titles, nine cups and the equivalent of four Community Shields in the process.
The 2021 Nations League winner, who also helped form part of the France team which reached the World Cup final in 2022, also had a stint at Juventus between 2019 and 2024 which saw him make 212 appearances, scoring 16 times and contributing 12 assists while also lifting one Serie A title and a further two domestic cups.
Rabiot enjoyed his best goal-scoring season to date at Marseille after finding the net 10 times and contributing six assists in 32 matches for the French side while often being deployed in a more advanced midfield role. However, he faces an uncertain future with Roberto de Zerbi’s teams after being involved with Jonathan Rowe after an opening day defeat to Stade Rennais.
Marseille are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the player but are yet to have their stance tested with a formal approach. However, the player's representatives have been contacted by numerous clubs with Tottenham facing competition from AC Milan and Aston Villa. Tottenham are the only one of the teams mentioned to have secured Champions League football. However, AC Milan boss Massimo Allegri does know the player well from his time at Juventus and similarly Unai Emery has coached him in the past at PSG.
Yves Bissouma closes in on Tottenham exit
Turkish club Galatasaray are in talks with Tottenham over a loan deal for defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma, who is yet to feature for the Lillywhites this term.
The former Brighton midfielder was left out of the squad to face PSG n in the Uefa Super Cup this month because of persistent lateness. He was left out of the squad for the wins over Burnley and Manchester City due to injury and is thought to be on the verge of an exit this summer. Bissouma’s exit could potentially pave the way for Tottenham to up the ante in their approach for Rabiot as deadline day edges closer.
