We’ve only got a couple more weeks of the transfer window left to go, but the rumour mill is showing no signs of slowing down – and to help keep you all up to date, we’re back with our latest round-up of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, starting with a story for Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa supporters.

Villa fans may be alarmed to read a new report from The Daily Mail, which suggests that Spurs are “the latest club to be showing interest” in 23-year-old attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers, with Chelsea already known to be admirers.

Villa desperately want to keep their man, however, and are apparently “adamant” that they will keep him, and will now offer a new contract to a player that they consider to be “off limits” – with John McGinn also deemed to be unavailable amidst rumours of interest from other sides.

It isn’t clear whether Rogers will sign a new deal or agitate for a move, nor whether Spurs will launch a formal bid given that Villa’s stance has apparently been made very clear to them. The North London outfit are already in the market for both Savinho and Eberechi Eze, and signing both of those players may be enough to keep them from following their interest up.

The 3AM Verdict: There’s no asking price and Rogers is under contract until 2030, so the only way he moves this summer is if he really starts making an Alexander Isak-style fuss. We don’t see that happening, and think that both Spurs and Chelsea will leave it for next summer under the circumstances. Villa have put up some strong defences around Rogers and don’t plan to let him leave.

Spurs, Newcastle & Crystal Palace plotting £43m midfielder move

Let’s stick with Tottenham Hotspur for our next story, which comes courtesy of Spanish rumourmongers Fichajes – they allege that Spurs are one of three Premier League sides that want to sign former Chelsea man Conor Gallagher, along with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

Atlético Madrid are apparently “willing to sell him” after he failed to convincingly nail a starting spot down during his first season under Diego Simeone, but only if a good offer comes in – with Gallagher’s three suitors supposedly willing to pay €50m (£43m) for him.

Spurs are said to have made “preliminary contacts” with Atléti ahead of launching a formal bid, but there’s no suggestion that either Newcastle or Palace have formalised their alleged interest at all. Simeone is in “no rush” to sell Gallagher, who is a popular figure at the Metropolitano, but the England midfielder’s “preference” is said to be to head back to the Premier League.

The 3AM Verdict: It’s worth noting that Fichajes don’t, in our opinion, have the best track record when it comes to accuracy, but there’s nothing all that implausible here. Spurs do need another midfielder and Gallagher could fit the bill, while Newcastle’s name has come up before. We suspect that it’s likely that Gallagher stays where he is for now, though.

Fulham lead Everton in race for £26m Serie A star

Let’s wrap up with a story which suggests that Fulham could be close to signing Juventus winger Nicolás González this summer – in spite of interest from Everton.

According to Sport Witness, who relay it via Italian media reports, both Premier League teams have made “initial contact” about the 27-year-old Argentine, with Fulham looking more likely after Everton agreed a loan deal for Jack Grealish.

It’s not clear whether the Cottagers’ own pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Kevin will stop them from making a formal bid, although they do know the price tag – Juventus want a loan arrangement with purchase option which would be worth a total of €30m (£26m). Atlético Madrid are debating a move, too, but have yet to lodge an offer.

The 3AM Verdict: González hasn’t quite made the most of his move from Fiorentina and is very much on the market, but what we’re seeing here feels a lot like agents trying to drum up interest in their client rather than stories based on anything especially tangible. Everton seem an unlikely destination with the moves they’ve made so far, and while Fulham could be a consideration, we’ve not seen any corroboration from the British media. One-sided transfer stories like that always deserve some gentle scepticism.
