Here's the Tottenham Hotspur team that Thomas Frank has selected to face Brentford in the Premier League on New Year's Day

Thomas Frank has made three changes to his Tottenham team to face Brentford on New Year's Day.

Spurs are looking to build on their 1-0 win at Crystal Palace which arrived thanks to Archie Gray's header. Captain Cristian Romero is back after his one-game suspension, albeit with the threat of a future ban looming with his FA charge for failing to get off the pitch promptly following his late red card against Liverpool.

However, Tottenham remain without the suspended Xavi Simons as he serves the second of a three-game ban. Dominic Solanke has returned to working with the team in training, but remains out with Dejan Kulusevski, Destiny Udogie and James Maddison, while Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Lucas Bergvall was a doubt with an injury picked up at Selhurst Park and misses out. That means Joao Palhinha comes into the starting line-up alongside Rodrigo Bentancur with Gray playing in an advanced role as he did after Bergvall left the pitch on Sunday.

Brennan Johnson is not involved as he undergoes his medical ahead of a £33.5milliom move to Crystal Palace after being told by Frank and sporting director Fabio Paratici that he was not part of the club's plans going forward, football.london understands.

Kevin Danso earned the player of the match award for his battling display at Selhurst Park but makes way for the returning Romero while Randal Kolo Muani is replaced by Wilson Odobert. Youngster Callum Olusesi is among the substitutes on the bench.
