Brazilian wing-back Wesley has been one of AS Roma’s best players this season, catching attention from Tottenham and others. Even if the Italian side will put up a wall, Spurs can find a discount over a deal.

The 22-year-old joined the Giallorossi for €25m last summer. That has proved to be a bit of a bargain, with Wesley fitting perfectly into Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.

He has played 34 times in all competitions, contributing to six goals. Apart from playing at right wing-back, he has often been the first choice on the left.

This has made him a candidate to play at the World Cup with Brazil, featuring regularly since his arrival in Rome. At the same time, he is attracting attention from many clubs.

Tottenham are one of those interested in a transfer.

Roma putting up barrier

Sport Witness have previously covered Manchester City’s interest in Wesley and ASRomaLive offer some more information.

The outlet note that Tottenham are keeping an eye on the Brazil international, with Liverpool and Arsenal also in the race.

It is believed Roma have put up a price-tag of €60m on the transfer, which suggests a reluctance to sell him. This is making the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City consider other targets but the same isn’t true for Spurs.

The price tag does seem a bit inflated, as previous reports have spoken of a €50m valuation. This perhaps indicates that Roma might not be in a strong negotiating position and a deal can be done for less than €60m.

Major transfer need can help Tottenham

As things stand, the Giallorossi are outside the top four in Serie A. They have always had troubles with Financial Fair Play, having also previously signed a settlement agreement with UEFA for it.

If they miss out on Europe, they will be desperate for a major sale. That can come in any form but if Tottenham offer around €50m, or maybe even €5m or so less, Roma will be tempted.

This can prove enough for them and their FFP fight. Besides, that amount is usually significant for Serie A clubs due to the obvious financial mismatch between England and Italy.

So if Roberto De Zerbi’s side are serious about Wesley, he will fit right into the Italian’s high intensity system.
