Tottenham may have won the Europa League trophy in May, but they made an effort to strengthen their squad following a disappointing 17th-place finish in Ange Postecoglou's final season in charge.

Spurs make six permanent additions and two loan signings before the summer transfer window shuts on Monday, leaving Thomas Frank to focus on integrating the new arrivals into his squad in the coming months.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, the transfer market was not always kind to them, as they failed in their efforts to sign some key targets during the course of the window.Â

Here, Sports Mole analyses Tottenham's summer transfer window and whether they can view their overall business as a success.Â

Spurs summer transfer window: Simons, Kudus lead Frank's new arrivals

Tottenham ended their trophy drought in the 2024-25 campaign, but their woeful performance in the Premier League reinforced the need for new arrivals for Frank's first season at the helm.Â

The final third was identified as a priority area after seeing it weakened by Son Heung-min's departures, as well as injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Spurs recruited Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United early in the window for £55m, and while he struggled to produce his best form last term, he has proven that he can perform in the Premier League, making him a shrewd addition to Tottenham's attacking ranks.Â

They also splashed out around £52m to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig ahead of their London rivals Chelsea, which would have been met with relief in the Tottenham boardroom after missing out on other attacking targets in the summer window.

Simons has the potential to be an important player in Frank's side after impressing at Leipzig with 22 goals and 24 assists in 78 competitive appearances.

The Dutchman should fill the void created by Maddison's long-term knee injury, with the attacker able to feature in the midfield three or play as a number 10 in a 4-2-3-1 system.

Simons has also proven he can play on either flank, ensuring he will bring useful versatility to the squad once he returns from international duty with the Netherlands.Â

Spurs are preparing to balance Champions League action with their domestic obligations, so they will be pleased to have added depth to their squad by converting Kevin Danso and Mathy Tel's loan moves into permanent transfers.

They have also recruited players with potential in Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic, although the latter has been sent out on loan to Hamburg to continue his development.Â

Meanwhile, Tottenham have utilised the loan market to bring former Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha back to the Premier League, and the Bayern Munich loanee has already established himself in Frank's squad, having started two of his Premier League appearances for his new club.

Randal Kolo Muani also arrived on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day, with the 26-year-old set to compete with Richarlison and Dominic Solanke for the number nine spot.

A loan deal makes Kolo Muani a low-risk option, but he demonstrated at Juventus last season that he can be a clinical goalscorer after netting 10 goals in 22 appearances during his temporary stint with the Italian giants.Â

Spurs summer transfer window: Eze snub will sting

Tottenham made a real effort to strengthen their squad in the summer, but they will still be frustrated to miss out on some top targets during the course of the market.Â

They looked set to sign England international Morgan Gibbs-White at one stage, only for him to sign a new three-year contract with Nottingham Forest.

Savinho was another name that was linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Manchester City remained firm in their refusal to part ways with the Brazilian winger.

However, their failure to secure Eberechi Eze's signature will surely sting more than any of their other failed moves during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham appeared to be on the brink of recruiting Eze from Crystal Palace, before they were pipped to the post by their North London rivals Arsenal.Â

Spurs' recruitment team would have been left with a sense of embarrassment after failing to get that deal over the line, and while they have since signed Simons, every Eze goal and assist will only rub salt into the wounds.Â

Spurs summer transfer window: Tottenham may be light at right-back

Tottenham may feel that they are light in a few areas of the pitch, especially on the right side of their defence.

Pedro Porro is regarded as the club's undisputed right-back, but Spurs may have a problem if the Spain international spends any significant time out of action.Â

Djed Spence is the obvious candidate to cover in Porro's absence, but then that would leave Destiny Udogie as the only viable option to play left-back.Â

On paper, Tottenham may also be at least a winger short following the summer exits of Son and Manor Solomon to Los Angeles FC and Villarreal respectively.Â

With Kulusevski set to miss the rest of 2025, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Kudus are Frank's main wide options for the time being, although Richarlison and Tel can operate off the flanks if required.Â

Spurs summer transfer window: Was Tottenham's business a success?

Overall, Tottenham will believe that their squad is stronger than the one that finished the 2024-25 campaign, although Son's leadership skills will be a big miss.Â

Simons has the ability to become a star player if he can carry his Bundesliga form into the Premier League, so there should be plenty of excitement surrounding his addition.

Keeping new captain Cristian Romero should also be regarded as a key element of their summer business, especially as he looked destined to leave at the beginning of the window.Â

However, it remains to be seen whether they have the quality required to enjoy success in the Champions League and Premier League this season.Â

With that said, Spurs should reflect positively on their summer business, even if there will be regret about losing to Arsenal in the race for Eze.Â
