Racing Club de Avellaneda have made concrete efforts to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz this summer.
On Friday, we covered claims from Argentina which stated Racing offered $5m plus 30% of a future sale to Tottenham.
A day later, journalist Germán García Grova and MDZ both stated the Argentine club raised their offer to $7m [€5.97m] for the striker plus a 30% sell-on clause. They also stated Spurs are expected to accept the bid before Sunday.
That didn’t happen and journalist César Luis Merlo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that Tottenham are ‘yet to respond’ to Racing’s proposal for the 21-year-old. Therefore, they have identified Cruzeiro’s Lautaro Díaz as the new target.
It’s unclear why Thomas Frank’s side haven’t responded and accepted or rejected the offer for Véliz. It could be because Boca Juniors have joined the race for him.
That’s according to Bolavip, who state Boca Juniors are ready to battle with Racing for the Argentina U21 international. Both clubs have started negotiations for the Tottenham man, with Racing already making an offer for him.
Boca Juniors manager Miguel Ángel Russo previously managed the frontman at Rosario Central. The coach has personally called Véliz to explain how he plans to integrate him in the squad.
The fee Boca Juniors are willing to offer is currently lower than Tottenham’s request. This should give their league rivals an advantage, but the Europa League winners are yet to respond.
