The beloved Belgian central defender stands ready to join the backroom infrastructure to resurrect the club identity.

Watching a former side completely fall apart causes genuine pain, and former defensive rock Toby Alderweireld refuses to ignore the ongoing institutional crisis. Tottenham Hotspur barely avoided the ultimate disaster of relegation during a pathetic campaign, and now, the retired defender has been wanting to reverse the alarming slide for quite a while.

The Belgian star spent six glorious years in the capital during his physical peak. He anchored the iconic backline that pushed for league titles and also reached the Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino. He walked away from playing in 2025 after winning a trophy with Antwerp. However, his emotional attachment to the North London club remains unshaken.

The board openly acknowledges that the current squad culture requires a massive overhaul. Alderweireld possesses the exact elite mentality needed right now. Speaking to Standard Sport, the defender confirmed that decision makers have not reached out even as his desire to assist is completely undeniable.

“I was asked, ‘Imagine if Spurs asked you, would you want to help the team or the club?'” Alderweireld revealed during his interview. “I said, ‘Yeah, why not?’ Let’s see.” The retired player understands the scale of this task. He refuses to act like a magician with immediate answers.

“I’m not saying that I will fix every problem,” he confessed with honesty. “Of course not. But if they ask me what I think, of course I want to try to help. But I’m not saying I can fix it all.” Providing a realistic perspective is what the dressing room requires.

His stint in England defined his finest years. While Antwerp owns his childhood devotion, London holds his peak. “But I’m so thankful with Spurs, my best period as a football player at my peak,” he added. The N17 faithful remember those commanding displays fondly.

His bond with the fans remains completely intact. “I think I’ve always had a very, very, very good connection with the fans, with the club,” Alderweireld concluded. “If they want my help, why not?” The North Londoners should make the call.
